After claiming “controversy” in Narsingh Yadav doping saga, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh slammed one of India’s most-celebrated athletes Sushil Kumar. Sushil, who has been into controversy of late over Rio participation, is a two-time Olympic medallist — he won a bronze in 2008 Beijing Games and a silver four years later in London mega event.”If Sushil brought laurels to India at Olympics, the nation also treated him like a celebrity and I am grateful to that. But he has not done any favours for India,” Brij Bhushan told India Today in an exclusive interview. The ugly scenes in the Indian wrestling started last month after WFI named Narsingh to represent India at Rio and rejected two-time Olympian Sushil’s demands for a trial. This prompted Sushil to knock the doors of the Delhi High Court which dismissed his plea, saying “Though Sushil Kumar is a player with great record, the decision of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) cannot be held perverse.”PRAVEEN TO REPLACE NARSINGHNarsingh was tested positive for steroid methandienone, a banned substance, in a test conducted by the National Anti DopingAgency (NADA) and has been handed a provisional suspension, which hasjeopardised his chances of participating in the 74 kg freestyle category at Rio. The WFI has named Praveen Rana as a provisional replacement for Narsingh.WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh revealed that Rana’s name was sent to secure the Olympic quota. The WFI has informed the international wrestling body that they were willing to send Rana instead of Narsingh.advertisement”Rana’s name has been sent to secure Olympic quota. But if If Narsingh gets a clean chit, he will go to Rio,” Brij Bhushan told India Today.Narsingh will have a chance to put forward his case in front of the NADA panel today. The chances of his suspension being revoked are remote as World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) has zero tolerance towards doping. Rana, who had won a gold medal at the Dave Schultz Memorial wrestling tournament in USA in 2014, will be the man to represent India at Rio.INTRUDER IDENTIFIEDThe intruder identified by the hostel cook at the Sports Authority of India, Sonepat center is reportedly linked to an international wrestler who trains with Sushil Kumar at the Chhatrasal Stadium.”We have identified the person who contaminated Narsingh’s food. He is a relative of an international wrestler, who trains at Chhatrasal Stadium,” Brij Bhushan said.
