Mourinho “not worried” despite Chelsea’s striker shortage

first_img1 Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists he is remaining calm despite the prospect of facing Manchester United on Sunday without injured strike duo Diego Costa and Loic Remy. With summer signing and joint Premier League top scorer, Costa, already on the casualty list with a hamstring problem, the Stamford Bridge outfit were dealt another blow when No.2 forward Remy limped out of the Blues’ 6-0 Champions League destruction of Maribor. The Frenchman began the rout with a clinical finish early in the first-half but pulled his groin in the process, and was forced off moments later and replaced by veteran Blues hero Didier Drogba.Mourinho confirmed Remy has a “muscular injury” and faces a period out, while the Portuguese boss also suggested he doesn’t expect Costa to be fit for the trip to Old Trafford.“I don’t know the dimension and I’m not worried,” the manager said following the win. “When a player is injured, play another one.“Tomorrow is a day off and the doctor is forbidden to call me to speak about injuries. I don’t want to speak about injuries. Man United… I don’t want to know.“We don’t cry on injuries. It’s our philosophy, we don’t cry. We just think one injury means an opportunity for somebody else.“We cannot hide. In this moment we have some problems with players that are not available to play.“We will prepare the game Thursday, Friday, Saturday to try to be at our best possible level against an opponent which we respect very, very much.”It leaves 36-year-old Drogba, who has only just returned from an ankle injury, as Chelsea’s sole remaining fit senior striker. On Monday Mourinho insisted the Ivorian was not ready to play 90 minutes, but was happy with his performance as the Blues legend scored his 158th Chelsea goal from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 against the Slovenian champions.“I was not expecting him to play 75 [minutes],” the boss added.“I spoke with him yesterday and we spoke about 30, but he was comfortable to play 75 minutes.“It was very, very important for Didier. The best thing for a player to improve his condition is to play.“His last goal for Chelsea was the most important goal in the history of the club. So to be back and to score again at Stamford Bridge is nice for him.” Chelsea forward Loic Remy limps out of 6-0 Champions League victory over Maribor with a groin injury last_img
